Second Cup Swing's monthly dance at Taft Street Coffee usually occurs on the third Saturday of the month. On rare occassions the coffee house needs to book the room for a special event on the third Saturday. When this happens they usually manage to reschedule the dance for another night during the same month.

The next dance will be held on Saturday, October 21st. November's dance will be on the 18th; December's dance will be on the 16th.

Just $3.00 cover gets you access to a huge dance floor and music from Houston's favorite swing DJs. The dance starts at 8:30 pm and runs until midnight. The admission price also gets you an introductory swing dance lesson from 7:15 - 8:30 pm. For additional swing dance instruction, come back for the lessons offered below.

About the Classes
These 6 week series of Monday evening classes cover Jitterbug and then move on to Lindy Hop, the original swing dance created in Harlem's Savoy Ballroom in the late 1920s. The classes are designed to give you a very sound foundation in the dynamics of Lead/Follow dancing and some fundamental movements. During the course you will learn to get the feel of swing and how to "play" to a variety of music. Dress comfortably and wear smooth-bottomed shoes. It is not necessary to have a partner to sign up as participants switch partners frequently throughout the classes.

About the Instructors
Hank Hauffe is an experienced swing dancer who has taught many classes for the Houston Swing Dance Society (HSDS), Rice Social Dance Society (RSDS), and Second Cup Swing. Hank loves the dance and teaching what he feels to be the heart of the dance - its energy through frame and counterbalance, and connection with the moment, the music and each other.

Hank started the swing dance night and lessons at Taft Street Coffee along with Amber Thomas in October 2004. In July 2006 the "Swing Night @ Taft" lessons and monthly dance were re-christened "Second Cup Swing", and he's delighted that Jenn has been his teaching partner there since October 2005.

Jen Ngo Mohtashami started swing dancing in 1995, and was a charter member of Rice University's Night Owl Swing Gang, a swing and Lindy Hop performance group. She has taught Swing and Lindy Hop with the Rice Social Dance Society (RSDS), Houston Swing Dance Society (HSDS), and Second Cup Swing, and has a passion for sharing swing with others. Jen is especially committed to helping both new and experienced dancers reach a clear understanding of the ever-so-important fundamentals of connection and energy.
