Veterans Day Hangar Dance Sat. Nov 8th @ San Marcos, TX

The Veterans Day Hangar Dance in San Marcos, Texas will be on Saturday, November 8th. Tickets are $30 for everyone and include a B-B-Q meal and dancing to the (FABULOUS) Sentimental Journey Orchestra.

There will be a dance contest and a silent auction. To buy tickets: call (512) 396-1943 or email alisonender@grandecom.net. Tell them you want to sit with the San Antonio Swing Dance Society (they have two tables reserved, and will get another if necessary).

Dinner from 6-7:30pm, and Dancing from 7:30-11pm. Plan some car-pooling on the HSO forum!

Troy's 6th Annual Halloween Party & Dance, Friday 10/31!

This Friday, October 31st, Troy is again hosting his (6th!) Annual Halloween Party and Dance for our dancing pleasure! There will be 2 dance rooms featuring Lindy, Blues, and West Coast Swing (and occasionally others thrown in for fun).

Margaritas, Pina Coladas, soft drinks, party food, and water (of course) provided. Bringing chips, munchies, snacks, extras, and desserts is as always greatly appreciated.

Not sure what to bring? Consider this: Troy is dedicating this year's party to the Lindy Hopper's Fund, benefitting old-time (like, your grandmother's old-time) Lindy Hoppers. In particular, a former Savoy Lindy Hopper, Gloria Caldwell, is in urgent need of assistance due to Hurricanes Ike and Rita (more details here); donations appreciated (but optional, of course).

Word is that Bill Borgida (a.k.a. Swing and Blues Instructor Extraordinaire) will also be at the party so you can get a few dances in, chat, and find out more about Saturday's workshop!

Directions: From Downtown, Take I-10 West to Wirt Road/Chimney Rock Exit. Go North approximately one mile. Go through one light (Westview) and take the second right on Flowerdale. Take an immediate right on Baggett. The third and last house on the left is Troy's house (Map: 1502 Baggett Lane, Houston, TX, 77055).

Bill Borgida Workshop & Dance, November 1st!

Mark your calendar! On November 1st, HSDS is hosting a workshop with Bill Borgida. Bill is highly regarded for his teaching skills, and Bill's instruction has had a profound influence on the Swing & Lindy Hop scene for the past 14 years. Known as the teachers' teacher, Bill has organized and groomed the Minnie's Moochers whose members have gone on to be well known instructors in workshops around the world.

The Workshop will be from 1-5:30pm at the Melody Club. Cost is $40, and includes the dance at Nia Moves (Bill will be there!) afterward. Sign up on the HSDS website.

After the workshop, head over to the dance at Nia Moves Studio, 3221 Houston Ave, Houston, TX 77009 (map). $3, or free with workshop, 8pm-12.

Demitasse Dance with Guest DJ Ivy Grey, Saturday 10/11

As a special edition to Saturday's Demitasse Dance, we are happy to welcome back guest DJ Ivy Grey, now hailing from Portland, Oregon! Come enjoy her special selection of only the tastiest groovin' tunes and shake it!

The Demitasse Dance is a smaller more-casual/friendly dance with DJ'ed "groovy swing" music, occurring (almost) every Saturday night from 9pm-12, at Te House of Tea (located at Woodhead and Fairview). There's no cover, but please do support the establishment with a purchase!
